Realistic, Practical Training

The Hands-on Operations Training (HOT) units provide realistic, practical training for operators in all types of process facilities. The HOT units use industrial equipment, piping and instrumentation to create a safe and realistic environment where your students will master the critical competencies required to safely operate process equipment.

Purpose built to support Process Technology (PTEC) and Basic Operator Training (BOT) requirements, Polaris supplies each unit with an operating manuals, procedures, and training exercises to support structured learning of common operations tasks. Additional training aids to support advanced training are also available.

Each unit is designed and manufactured to ASME standards using state-of the-art industrial components including a fully functional Emerson Delta V DCS. The durable design ensures the system will provide reliable service in either indoor or outdoor environments.



Learn the essentials of temperature, flow, level and pressure from over 100 exercises, scenarios and procedures available for the Polaris HOT Model 1.The HOT Model 1 includes:

HOT Model 3

Polaris H.O.T. Model 3
Learn the fundamentals of distillation by separating a binary mixture of water and glycol. Operators learn unit startup and shutdown, continuous operation, and quality control with the robust curriculum and procedures and accompany the Polaris HOT Model 3.
The HOT Model 3 includes:

  • Vacuum pump (liquid ring compressor)
  • Vacuum tower
  • Reboiler
  • Overhead condenser

  • Dynamic process simulation with scenarios
  • Virtual field operator
  • 3D process equipment animations

Using the simulator and virtual field operator, students familiarize themselves with the operation of hot unit and practice procedures in a computer lab, before working on the HOT unit. Using the simulator maximizes the hands-on time when students are assigned to work on the Hands-On Training unit.
